What is your favorite food/place to eat?: Homemade Japanese food from my grandmother’s kitchen (she’s Japanese).

What do you like to do for fun?: Craft, antique/peddler’s mall shopping, and spending time with my husband.

What is your greatest accomplishment?: I haven’t yet reached my greatest accomplishment…. which will be to become a mother.

Celebrate Administrative Professionals Day!

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department honors Administrative Professionals Day on April 26.

Administrative Professionals Day was first marked in 1952 and is designed to honor secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals. The idea was to recognize “the secretary, upon whose skill, loyalty and efficiency the functions of business and government offices depend,” according to the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

LFCHD’s administrative professionals include Lindsay Earlywine, Laura Foley, Pamela Hopkins, Laura Martinez, Christina Nentwick, Sharon Robinson, Estephany Romero, Laura Overstreet-Sandusky and Joy Spencer.

Take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program

Take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program that is provided free of charge from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

The services provided by Access Wellness Group are completely confidential and covered under HIPAA regulations. We provide up to 8 individual EAP sessions per employee per year, with additional sessions available to members of your immediate household, up to a maximum of 16 sessions. This service is a prepaid benefit, so when you use your EAP service there is no co-pay or other additional charge for the service.

Access Wellness Group is a team of experienced highly respected professionals who provide all types of counseling and resources for mental health concerns.

The clinical staff at Access Wellness Group includes Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses who specialize in mental health. They incorporate a wide variety of therapeutic approaches that are focused on helping clients achieve greater wellness.

Other EAP Services:

Legal Consultation: If you are considering legal action or just have questions about common legal issues, an attorney is available to provide you with two hours of free legal consultation.

Financial Counseling: Need help putting together a budget? Use your EAP counseling sessions to meet with a financial counselor to help reach your savings goals, deal with creditors, or simply help you set a budget.

Elder Care Consultation: Use your EAP sessions for guidance from an eldercare professional. They can help with issues associated with caring for an aging family member and assure that you are making the most of all community resources available.

What was your previous job (if different from current position)? I did home visiting: made prenatal, post-partum, and newborn assessment visits.

What is your favorite movie, type of music/musician or book? Country Music; Movie: An Officer and A Gentleman; Book: history books especially about pilots in WW2.

What is your favorite color? Blue

What is your favorite food/place to eat? Italian

What do you like to do for fun? To watch Michigan State basketball games, Michigan State football games, and Golden State Warriors basketball games.

What type of pets do you have? Rat Terrier mix dog and a cat.

What word(s) describe you best?: Devoted to my 9 year old and 13 year old daughters.

What is your greatest accomplishment?: Being a mother of two lovely girls.

Special testing event marks National Youth HIV and AIDS Awareness Day

National Youth HIV and AIDS Awareness Day

Monday was National Youth HIV and AIDS Awareness Day, and to honor the day, our staff provided special free testing on campus for University of Kentucky students in addition to normal testing hours at 650 Newtown Pike.

In the United States, almost 10,000 people ages 13 to 24 were diagnosed with HIV in 2014, and 81 percent of those were ages 20-24.

In addition to social media posts, the special event received coverage in the UK student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel.

What is your greatest accomplishment? My two children and getting promoted to Master Chief in the US Navy.

Mason receives honor for diabetes work

Tara Mason, a health educator in the diabetes program with Community Health Equity and Education) recently received an award from the Kentucky Diabetes Network. The statewide diabetes coalition honored Mason for her work using the KDN website to connect Fayette County residents to networking, diabetes improvement tools and resources.

Environmental Health & Protection team gets in on a Countdown

EH countdown1The Environmental Health & Protection team used the LFCHD team-building opportunity to play in the Countdown Games on March 20.

The Countdown Games involve groups of people teaming up to solve puzzles and use clues to escape from a room or area within an hour. The games are not only fun but also require the teams to work together and rely on each other to solve problems and navigate obstacles. Read more…
